Confronted with Tom Georgiev's photos, I am always left breathless by their implied audacity and deep penetration. "How haven't I noticed this before?" - I gasp - "This is so obvious!". Or: "This is so true ... and, yet ... impossible!". Tom was wide open to me, as his subject, and to the world. Throughout our session, with amazing panache and lightning speed, he incorporated into his work elements from kaleidoscopic street scenes. [sign in to see URL]...

The narcissist’s nearest and dearest end up being victimized by his instability, misleading cues, and counter-dependence (his hatred of authority figures, for instance). [sign in to see URL]...

The narcissist’s mate or spouse may be a warm, independent woman – but she may also be a codependent or an inverted narcissist. The narcissist abuses his intimate partner in numerous ways: overtly, covertly, by being unpredictable, reacting disproportionately, dehumanizing, objectifying, and leveraging personal information. He may also use ambient abuse (gaslighting) or abuse her by proxy, via third parties. [sign in to see URL]...

Paranoid ideation - the narcissist's deep-rooted conviction that he is being persecuted by his inferiors, detractors, or powerful ill-wishers - serves two psychodynamic purposes. It upholds the narcissist's grandiosity and it fends off intimacy. [sign in to see URL]...

The narcissist ages without mercy and without grace. His withered body and his overwrought mind betray him all at once. He suffers from mental progeria. Subject to childhood abuse, he ages prematurely and finds himself in a time warp, constantly in the throes of a midlife crisis. On the other hand, he is a puer aeternus, an eternal child: immature, sulking and pouting, unable to delay gratification, unwilling to commit or to assume adult roles and chores. Narcissists "love" their spouses or other significant others – as long as they continue to reliably provide them with Narcissistic Supply (in one word, with attention). Inevitably, they regard others as mere "sources", objects, or functions. Lacking empathy and emotional maturity, the narcissist's love is pathological. But the precise locus of the pathology depends on the narcissist's stability or instability in different parts of his life. [sign in to see URL]...

When loss is tangible the narcissist regains his former zeal and erstwhile fervor. He courts a long neglected wife, invests himself in a hated job, befriends spurned colleagues, engulfs with unnatural warmth and empathy offended friends. He rediscovers the joy of sex with an adulterous partner. It is as though being cheated by his wife (or husband) rekindles in the narcissist a competitive urge, a possessive streak, and a perverted carnal pleasure. [sign in to see URL]...

Narcissistic and Psychopathic leaders reify the pathologies of their culture and society. They foster and propagate a personality cult and when things go sour, they turn on their followers and acolytes. [sign in to see URL]...

Narcissists are said to be in love with themselves. But this is a fallacy. Narcissus is not in love with himself. He is in love with his reflection. [sign in to see URL]...

The narcissist directs his whole behaviour, in fact his life, to obtain pleasurable titbits of attention. He embeds them in a coherent, completely biased, picture of himself. He uses them to regulates his labile sense of self-worth and self-esteem. [sign in to see URL]...

Pathological narcissism is a life-long pattern of traits and behaviours which signify infatuation and obsession with one's self to the exclusion of all others and the egotistic and ruthless pursuit of one's gratification, dominance and ambition. As distinct from healthy narcissism which we all possess, pathological narcissism is maladaptive, rigid, persisting, and causes significant distress, and functional impairment. The irony is that narcissists, who consider themselves worldly, discerning, knowledgeable, shrewd, erudite, and astute - are actually more gullible than the average person. This is because they are fake. Their self is false, their life a confabulation, their reality test gone. They live in a fantasy land all their own in which they are the center of the universe, admired, feared, held in awe, and respected for their omnipotence and omniscience. [sign in to see URL]...

The False Self replaces the narcissist’s True Self and is intended to shield him from hurt and narcissistic injury by self-imputing omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence (godlike attributes). The narcissist pretends that his False Self is real and demands that others affirm this confabulation. The False Self re-interprets information in a flattering or socially-acceptable light and also imitates and emulates normal emotions and empathy. [sign in to see URL]...

The narcissist is a human pendulum hanging by the thread of the void that is his False Self. He swings between brutal and vicious abrasiveness - and mellifluous, saccharine sentimentality. It is all a simulacrum. A verisimilitude. A facsimile. Enough to fool the casual observer. Enough to extract the drug - other people's glances - the reflection that sustains this house of cards somehow. [sign in to see URL]...

Codependents are needy, demanding, and submissive. They suffer from abandonment anxiety and, to avoid being overwhelmed by it, they cling to others and act immaturely. These behaviors are intended to elicit protective responses and to safeguard the "relationship" with their companion or mate upon whom they depend. Codependents appear to be impervious to abuse. No matter how badly mistreated, they remain committed. [sign in to see URL]...

Narcissistic Personality Disorder cannot be cured, but certain antisocial and self-destructive or self-defeating behaviors can be modified using cognitive-behavioral therapies. Narcissists attend therapy only as a last resort and only in order to restore their access to narcissistic [sign in to see URL] hold the therapist in contempt and seek to establish their grandiose superiority and entitlement by playing mind games and by undermining the therapeutic alliance. The inverted narcissist craves to be in a relationship with a narcissist, regardless of any abuse inflicted on her. She actively seeks relationships with narcissists and only with narcissists, no matter what her (bitter and traumatic) past experience has been. She feels empty and unhappy in relationships with non-narcissists. [sign in to see URL]-...
