Re: FOCUS ON OURSELVES: Self-Esteem

I was happy to score a 90 on the self esteem test. Three or more years ago I believe it would have been only half or less.

Being out and away from the xnh and in a loving relationship has helped me to mend and to feel good about my life.
NC and getting away from these disordered people who want to kill our souls is the only solution to creating a new life. It is the first major big step.

Hugs,
Had Enough

Re: FOCUS ON OURSELVES: Self-Esteem

This is a great post and truly informative. i am 50 yrs old and have, for the past 3 years, only just started to build the life I envisioned for myself. It took so much for me to break out of decades of emotional abuse. Going nc was hard at first, but not having abusers in my life has helped me grow without sabotage and to focus on what my gifts are in this life. I never thought I would get to this point of healing, but now I can say that I don't want to go back and deal with my abusers. I feel as if I am at the point where I want to focus on my goals and I don't care about them. This is huge for me. It is also new, and it comes from some successes in my life that would never have been possible if I stayed in their emotional clutches.

Re: FOCUS ON OURSELVES: Self-Esteem

Are You Abusive to Yourself?

Often we allow people into our lives who treat us as we expect to be treated. If we feel contempt for ourselves or think very little of ourselves, we may pick partners or significant others who reflect this image back to us. If we are willing to tolerate negative treatment from others, or treat others in negative ways, it is possible that we also treat ourselves similarly. If you are an abuser or a recipient, you may want to consider how you treat yourself. What sorts of things do you say to yourself? Do thoughts such as "I'm stupid" or "I never do anything right" dominate your thinking? Learning to love and care for ourselves increases self-esteem and makes it more likely that we will have healthy, intimate relationships.

very true!

Re: FOCUS ON OURSELVES: Self-Esteem

Results of your Self-Esteem Test
  Self-Esteem Index

Your score = 80
What does your score mean?
According to this test, you have high self-esteem. You recognize your inner value and it shows in your personal life, relationships and career/school success. You exude confidence, which is very attractive, and believe enough in yourself to pursue things whole-heartedly. Such a healthy self-esteem allows you to "be yourself", handle stress effectively and maintain an overall sense of well-being. You should value and nurture this quality; it will get you far in life. Way to go!
