Recommended Reading for Oct’18 – Malignant Self-Love Narcissism Revisited

There is a lot of chaos around the meaning of the word- Narcissism.
Almost everyone knows narcissism has something to do with unreal affection for self. But, that is all most know. Consequently, narcissism is talked less in the context of the psychological disorder that it is and more, and incorrectly, to label people who are obsessed with clicking selfies [SAY WHATTT!] and then there are select few who confuse narcissistic traits with the narcissistic personality disorder. (NPD)

Amidst these baffling ideas of narcissism and no coherent/concrete fundamentals explicitly spelt out, comes a ray of hope in the form of Sam Vaknin’s book- Malignant Self Love: Narcissism Revisited, putting the world of a narcissist into perspective. Sam Vaknin, though has no degree of psychology himself, but still is frequently quoted in several studies and by several psychologists around the world for his research on Narcissism and Psychopathy.

Now, why should you read Malignant Self love when you are not diagnosed with NPD, yourself?
Personally speaking, I think there are two main reasons everyone should know about NPD. First, the narcissistic psychological disorder goes around highly unnoticed. And second, the toxic relationship that a narcissist has with others, in order to quench his/her thirst for ‘Narcissistic Supply’, creates the dynamic of a host and a parasite.

Because of the above two mentioned reasons, both the narcissist and its victims are completely unequipped to deal with the severity of this disorder. Also, it is highly important to be able to spot a narcissist before you, yourself, become a victim of the abuse.

What makes Malignant Self Love, a comprehensive blueprint of a Narcissist’s brain, is that it comes from a Narcissist himself. This has made his work one of a kind, by bringing unprecedented clarity on the subject.

As Narcissism Personality disorder has no cure so far, it becomes all the more important to learn how to cope with it.
