Social Media Toxicity VIDEO TRANSCRIPTS
First of all THANK YOU to Sam Vaknin and Richard Grannon et al. who took whatever needed to make these video’s. Thank you for bringning forward your research and information.

There is so much amazing stuff to consume in all video’s, and horrifying too I must say. While listening to “The TRUE Toxicity of Social Media Revealed” – over and over again – I missed the text in from of me to grasp even more of it.

Searching for transcriptions, I found none. Therefore, I made my own. And I created this website to share the video’s + PDF’s. Feel free to read and share them with others.

Mind-blowing, ground shaking numbers and informations are revealed and leave you with nothing but the need to be much more conscious about how we use social media.

Especially our young ones are in a dangerous situation, I quote Sam Vaknin [part 1]:
We know that anxiety and depression among the young – between 15 and 24 – increased by 70% over the last 30 years. It has simply doubled. And we know that since 2010 teen suicide climbed by 31%, so teen suicide is rampant. Today it is the first time in human history, that the leading cause of death among teens up to the age of 24, is suicide. Not any disease or not even accidents – it used to be accidents – today it is suicide. That’s the leading cause of death, and this is intimately connected to social media.

But don’t feel safe if you are an older human version. Social media usage might have a more sinister impact on you that you can imagine.

If you are a mother, father, teacher, brother, sister, friend, psychologist, psychiatrist, or just a human being, you cannot let these video’s pass by. Please share if you also find this subject important.

Feel free to use the ressources here – and I’ll then suggest you find the places where you can connect with, discuss and support everyone who see what has to be done.

In hope for our future,

Vianne Fischer,

My name is Sam Vaknin. I am the author of Malignant Self-love: Narcissism Revisited as well as many other books and ebooks about topics in psychology, relationships, philosophy, economics, international affairs, and award-winning short fiction. I am a Visiting Professor of Psychology, Southern Federal University, Rostov-on-Don, Russia and Professor of Finance and Psychology in CIAPS (Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies).

My work is cited in hundreds of books and dozens of academic papers and prime mass media interviews:

The Toxicity of Social Media: From Conditioning to Rehab

Social media were designed to attract "eyeballs" and monetize them via targeted advertising. To guarantee repeat use, the technology fostered the diminishment of impulse control and delayed gratification and emphasized relative positioning (envy and status via ranking). It also deliberately rewarded escalating aggression.

These led to the operant conditioning of the users of these platforms and to addictive behaviors.

Addiction, in turn, engendered a reduced capacity for intimacy and for the self-regulation of the user's sense of self-worth and identity. Attention-seeking and grandiosity resulted in dysempathy (enhanced pathological narcissism).

I modified my new treatment modality, Cold Therapy (see below) and came up with a detox and rehab program for Internet and Social Media Addiction. (Transcripts) (The True Toxicity of Social Media) (Malignant Egalitarianism) (The Need to Be Seen) (Plugged-in Documentary) (How to Fix Social Media) (Social Media as the Big Eye)

Cold Therapy: A New Treatment Modality

I have spent the past 6 years developing a treatment modality for Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Over the years, with dozens of volunteers, it was found to be effective with clients suffering from a major depressive episode as well.

Developed by Sam Vaknin, Cold Therapy is based on two premises: (1) That narcissistic disorders are actually forms of complex post-traumatic conditions coupled with addictive behaviors; and (2) That narcissists are the outcomes of arrested development and attachment dysfunctions. Consequently, Cold Therapy borrows techniques from child psychology and from treatment modalities used to deal with PTSD.

Cold Therapy consists of the re-traumatization of the narcissistic client in a hostile, non-holding environment which resembles the ambience of the original trauma. The adult patient successfully tackles this second round of hurt and thus resolves early childhood conflicts and achieves closure rendering his now maladaptive narcissistic defenses redundant, unnecessary, and obsolete.

Cold Therapy makes use of proprietary techniques such as erasure (suppressing the client’s speech and free expression and gaining clinical information and insights from his reactions to being so stifled). Other techniques include: grandiosity reframing, guided imagery, negative iteration, other-scoring, happiness map, mirroring, escalation, role play, assimilative confabulation, hypervigilant referencing, and re-parenting. It is proving to be an effective treatment for major depressive episodes (see this article about the link between pathological narcissism and depression and this article about depression and regulatory narcissistic supply in narcissism).
